Neville relishing challenge as Glory return to training

The squad is back together on the training pitch as Tony Popovic’s reign as Perth Glory Head Coach begins.

With a number of quality new signings, including Socceroos defender Ivan Franjic, towering centre-back Tomislav Mrcela and most recently experienced striker Brendon Santalab, there is a real buzz around the club as they commenced their first week of pre-season training on Monday.

There’s been plenty of hard work already put in at the UWA Sports Park as the players reunite and get acquainted with their new teammates.

Pre-Season

Defender Scott Neville is one player in particular who can’t wait for the season ahead.

“It’s great to be back out there, it’s been a long off-season,” he said. “It’s a really exciting time to be at the club, so it’s great to get going on the training pitch.”

“We had a real positive meeting as a group beforehand explaining what we’re all going to be about this season  with all the coaches before getting into some passing and running.”

Popovic

Neville, who played under Popovic during his time with Western Sydney between 2015-17, is delighted to be reunited with the Asian Champions League winning coach again.

“Popovic brings a winning attitude, he emphasised the standards we need to set for ourselves from day one and outlined what we need to achieve this season.

“It was great working with him at the Wanderers and I was really excited to hear he’d signed on at Glory. I know the boys can’t wait to learn as much as they can from him and achieve success in the upcoming campaign, but we need to put in the hard yards in pre-season first of all.”
