Neil Kilkenny says it has been almost 30 years since he last had a haircut so severe but it’s all for a good cause, with the Perth Glory midfielder shaving his head to raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.
One of the toughest midfielders in the Hyundai A-League, Kilkenny showed his softer side as he cropped his locks on Wednesday as part of the World’s Greatest Shave charity event.
The 33-year-old was joined by Hunter Madden at Glory’s training ground as a barber went to work on his luscious locks.
Young Hunter has been battling acute lymphoblastic leukaemia for more than two years, and last year also inspired Andy Keogh, Shane Lowry and several members of the Glory staff to submit to the clippers.
The World’s Greatest Shave helps to raise much-needed funding for blood cancer research and provides practical support to Australians diagnosed with blood cancers such as leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

“It’s for a fantastic cause. I have little children as well so I just want to help as much as possible and hopefully we can raise more awareness for it,” Kilkenny told Glory’s official website.
“It’s been a long time since I had a skinhead but it’s for a great cause. Hopefully we can raise as much money as we can and create more awareness as well.”
