Ivan Necevski has been named Sydney FC’s Player of the Year despite featuring in just nine clashes throughout the season.

Necevski completed a remarkable late season rise by taking out Sydney FC-s highest honour, winning the Hyundai A-League Player of the Year Award at the 2011/12 Sky Blue Ball at Doltone House tonight.

Necevski joins Alex Brosque (three time winner), Clint Bolton and Robbie Middleby in taking out the award, which is voted on by all members of the Hyundai A-League playing squad.

Necevski played a big part in Sydney FC-s run into the A-League finals after taking over goalkeeping duties for the last seven matches of the season, helping lift the Sky Blues from 7th to 5th on the competition ladder.

The 32-year-old played nine matches throughout the 2011/12 season with Sydney FC winning five of those clashes and losing just twice, one of which was the elimination final in Wellington.

Sydney FC Captain Terry McFlynn took out the Vitezslav Lavicka Clubman of the Year Award for his work in the Community and his leadership in helping the football department embrace the significant increase in the Community Program.

The Award was named in honour of Premiership/Championship winning coach Vitezslav Lavicka and awarded to the player who best displayed the Club-s five core values (Courage, Inspire, Be Passionate, Excellence and Family) on a daily basis.

Nick Carle won the 2011/12 Fans Player of the Year, as voted by the Sydney FC fans. Former winners are Steve Corica, David Carney and Alex Brosque.
