Natasha Dowie voted Player of the Month for January

Melbourne Victory skipper Natasha Dowie has claimed the Westfield W-League Player of the Month award for January.

Dowie came out on top as the month’s best player after helping Victory stake a claim for a finals berth with an excellent string of results.

The defending Premiers recorded wins over Newcastle Jets, Adelaide United and Canberra United in a perfect month of football.

And Dowie’s goals were key to their success.

The classy striker scored once in the 2-1 win over Newcastle Jets at the start of the month, before her brilliant brace oversaw a 3-0 win over Adelaide United.

Dowie then capped her purple patch of form going in Round 11, netting the final goal as Victory beat Canberra United 3-0.

After a slow start to the campaign, Victory are sitting nicely in fourth spot, three points ahead of Brisbane Roar.

But Jeff Hopkins’ side may also be looking further ahead, currently two points behind both Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers in the race for a top-two finish.
