Nabbout credits Jets coaches with goal motivation

Newcastle Jets star Andrew Nabbout has revealed the training ground inspiration behind his goal which helped secure Saturday’s stunning 3-2 triumph away to Brisbane Roar.

The visitors came from a goal down at Suncorp Stadium to break Brisbane’s 13-match home unbeaten stretch and climb two points clear inside the top six.

Nabbout’s textbook header handed Newcastle a shock 2-1 lead in the 72nd minute, with the gun attacker crediting the goal to coach Mark Jones and his team.

“The last couple of weeks the coaching staff have been hammering me about getting into that far post,” Nabbout told Fox Sports.

“I paid attention and it worked for me so I’m glad!”

Andrew Nabbout is set to return for Newcastle Jets for Saturday night's clash against Perth Glory.

In addition to going behind, the Jets had to overcome the loss of midfielder Wayne Brown at half-time as he dashed to the airport for the impending birth of his second child.

The club had booked the Englishman onto an earlier flight as a contingency for his wife going into labour ahead of schedule.

“He’s my roommate and he lives right next door to me. I gave my missus a phone call and told her to just keep an eye on his missus,” Nabbout said.

“Good luck to him. I’m really happy.

“They’ve already got one beautiful baby boy and another one on the way, so good luck to them and I wish them all the best.”
