NAB one to watch: Andrew Hoole

The man they affectionately call “Hooley” has started the new Hyundai A-League season on fire with the high-flying Newcastle Jets, and he is one to watch in the race for the NAB Young Footballer of the Year Award.

Hoole, 23, is in his second stint with the Jets. He made his debut in early 2013 after catching the eye for Jets youth.

The winger went on to make 50 appearances for the Hunter club but in 2015 switched to Sydney FC for a new challenge.

He rejoined the Jets in the 2016 off-season after one year in the Harbour City wiser and more motivated.

After that spell with the Sky Blues, he’s come back to his hometown fired up to prove himself. And that’s what he’s done with his pace and finishing in the final third.

After scoring goals for fun in the pre-season, Hoole bagged his first goal of his second stint in Round 3.

And what a spectacular moment it was and a fitting way to celebrate his 23rd birthday a day earlier.

Hoole curled a perfect set-piece from the edge of the box that crept underneath Andrew Redmayne and earned the boys from the Hunter a valuable point to keep their unbeaten record going levelling the match 2-2 against Wanderers at Spotless Stadium.
