Central Coast’s latest recruit Stuart Musialik knows he has a fight on his hands to force his way into the Mariners’ side during the upcoming Hyundai A-League season.
After being in limbo for months, Musialik finally sorted out his short-term playing future when he signed with the Mariners this week.
The midfielder will be at the club until the group stages of the Asian Champions League in a move which will see him reunite with Graham Arnold, who he played under with the Olympic team several years ago.
But Arnold has told the 26-year-old he needs to rediscover his best form to force his way into a strong looking Mariners midfield.
Musialik is one of several new faces Arnold has signed during what has been a busy off-season for the Mariners.
Arnold’s desire is to have two players for every position meaning starting spots will be up for grabs on a weekly basis.
“I know what is expected of me,” Musialik said.
“There’s a lot of good players at the club and plenty in the midfield so it’s a big challenge for me.”
Arnold said he was delighted to secure the services of Musialik and believes he will add plenty of strength to the club’s squad.
Musialik boasts Hyundai A-League grand final wins with Newcastle and Sydney.
“He brings really good pedigree to the club,” Arnold said.
“It was a bit of a juggle to fit him under the salary cap but a few players having loan deals in Asia freed up a bit of money and we could make it work.”
