Melbourne Victory coach Kevin Muscat said Monday night’s clash with Newcastle Jets was a “missed opportunity” as the Big V settled for a point in the 0-0 draw.
In a rescheduled clash due to catastrophic heat conditions in the Hunter over the weekend, Victory rallied in the second half after a disappointing opening half.

But Victory couldn’t find a way past the Newcastle backline, lead by the impressive Nigel Boogaard.
Muscat wasn’t happy with his team’s first half performance but saw better signs in the second half.
“We improved dramatically in the second half,” he told Fox Sports, noting his side has a lot of “comfortable possession” in the opening 45.
“In the second half we were much better in possession of the ball and it’s no coincidence that you start creating some chances.
“It’s a missed opportunity for us in terms of taking two extra points.
“But after we review this game I dare say there’ll be some room for improvement.”
Victory are 11 points behind league-leader Sydney FC with eight rounds remaining.
Muscat added striker Besart Berisha worked himself “into the ground” on a night when chances were few and far between.
“He had to do a good job for us when we didn’t have the ball tonight,” added the Victory boss.
Victory return to Northern NSW this weekend to face the improving Mariners on Sunday.
