“We’re delighted to have Mike Mulvey as the coach,”said an FFA spokesman.
“Mike’s done a great job over the past two games and knows the players and the team’s tactical and structural plans.
“We had Tom Sermanni on standby as part of our contingency plans for the weekend. Tom is a highly experienced club coach and of course has international experience with the Westfield Matildas.
“Now that Mike is on board, Tom will still accompany the team to Wellington and provide technical assistance as required.
“FFA was well prepared for this weekend and we have activated a plan to run the team for the next four games
“We have assembled a team of administrative, medical and support staff – remember we operate national teams and run national competitions, so we have a lot of in-house expertise.
“All the players have agreed to play on. We pay tribute to their professionalism.
“The team assembled on the Gold Coast this morning and headed to Brisbane for the flight to Wellington.
“There’s a really good spirit in the team and a determination to complete the season with dignity. They just want to play football and that’s what this is all about.”
