MRP overrule Broich red card

Brisbane Roar have won their battle to have the red card Thomas Broich received against Newcastle Jets rescinded, meaning the German will be available to take on Western Sydney Wanderers in round 10.

Broich received the red card in the 43rd minute of the clash with the Jets for holding his ground as an angry Josh Mitchell charged at him and was shockingly shown a red card by referee Brenton Hayward.

The Match Review Panel saw fit to expunge Broich-s red card, viewing the incident as a case of a clear officiating error.

The panel – consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Alan Davidson and Alan Contini – said “determining the Obvious Error Application in accordance with the A-League Disciplinary Regulations, the MRP unanimously found that it should be upheld and that the decision of the referee was one that “no referee in the possession of the facts, including all Broadcast Footage, could reasonably have made”. “

” Accordingly, the Player will have the red card expunged from his record and will be available to play in Round 10 of the Hyundai A-League.”
