Gold Coast United goalkeeper Glen Moss has shone in his job over the first third of the season but on the back of consecutive draws, the steely stopper says it’s time for a win when his club travels north to take on North Queensland this Sunday.
Moss has kept six clean sheets from ten outings in 2010 – the best record of any ‘keeper in the league, but his work at the back can only be fully appreciated with goals at the other end and subsequent Gold Coast wins.
“It is time for a win,” Moss declared. “This is the weekend to do it.”
“We’ve played a few hard teams lately – Adelaide are on top and Heart are now getting on a role – and draws are a good result against them away from home but now we’ve got to start banging in some goals at the other end.”
But the man who has anchored the stingiest defence in the Hyundai A-League this season (conceding just six goals) can’t do much to add to United’s own tally of nine goals, besides, he has his own problems to worry about.
On Sunday his task comes in the form of one of the hottest young footballers in the country – Fury flyer David Williams.
“David has been playing great for the past few weeks. He is pretty quick player and he can hit a mean ball as well. He has scored a couple this year and he is someone we will definitely have to pay a bit more attention to,” Moss said.
While Moss will be the last line against Williams and co. he relies heavily on the defensive formation in front of him which he rates very highly – the best, in fact.
“It is great defensive unit, probably the best in the league at the moment with Michael Thwaite and Dino Djulbic. We are looking very solid at the back, we just need to get some attacking plays going and score some goals,” he said.
But like his coaches and teammates, Moss ominously predicts that the penny is about to drop for the club that was last year the entertainers of the league.
“All the ingredients are there, we just need to find that consistency,” he said.
“It really is just a matter of time.”
