Departing shot-stopper Glen Moss freely admits he has big plans for the future, but first the proud New Zealander is determined to finish his tenure with the Wellington Phoenix on a winning note.
Moss, who joined the Phoenix at the start of last season after a stint in Romania with Dinamo Bucharest, will link with the Melbourne Victory on a two-year deal next season.
With two rounds remaining in the Hyundai A-League 2008/09 Season, the Phoenix sit three points adrift of the fourth-placed Central Coast Mariners in fifth spot.
And while scraping in to the top four won’t be easy, the 25-year-old still holds high hopes for the current campaign.
“If we can get good results in our last two games and have other results go our way then we’ve definitely got a chance,” Moss said.
Regardless of what transpires in the weeks ahead, the talented shot-stopper is proud of the club’s achievements this season, and confident the fledgling franchise is headed in the right direction.
“I think everyone has been impressed by us overall, again it’s an improvement on our opening season,” he said.
“If you had said at the start of this season that we’d be in with a sniff of the top four with two or three games to go then everyone would have been fairly happy.”
Moss, a key factor in his side’s success, delivered a modest appraisal of his own efforts this season.
“I got off to a good start and getting injured was a minor setback, but now I’m back out on the pitch and feeling really good in my performances and more confident every week,” he said.
A regular in the New Zealand national side, Moss concedes he is leaving the Phoenix with a heavy heart.
“It will be very hard to leave, especially leaving the supporters,” he said.
“Yellow Fever have been amazing and being named Fans’ Player of the Year last season was a huge honour and something I’ll never forget.”
But the 25-year-old admits the opportunity to link join Ernie Merrick’s men was one he simply could not ignore.
“I think it’ll take my game to the next level,” he enthused.
“They’ve got a very professional goalkeeping staff and that’s very appealing.”
“I’m also looking forward to the competition because as a goalkeeper you want to be pushed hard every day at every training session,” he said.
Away from football you’ll find this likeable Kiwi either at the beach or on the golf course trying to improve his ‘average’ golf game.
He is also an unashamed fan of Australian legend Mark Bosnich and former Manchester United custodian Peter Schmeichel.
“Bozza was an amazing keeper and I was lucky enough to meet him and play against him when he was at the Central Coast Mariners,” he said.
