Moss confirms interest in Magyar midfielder

Central Coast boss Phil Moss has confirmed the club is looking at Hungarian midfielder Richard Vernes as one of the options for a deal with the Hyundai A-League club.

“He’s certainly one we’ve been looking at,” Mariners coach Phil Moss confirmed to www.a-league.com.au on Monday.

“There are few foreigners in our sights. We obviously signed Malick Mane who’s a Senegalese international and Richard Vernes is certainly one we’ve been looking at as well as a few others.

Hungarian outlet Nemzetisport reported the temporary switch as a done deal, with the Mariners yet to confirm or announce the signing.

Vernes, 22, began his youth career at Ferencvaros before joining Honved in 2007. He made his senior debut in 2010 and has gone on to tally 46 league appearances for the club, scoring nine goals.

The midfielder has represented Hungary at U-20 and U-21 level.

“Hopefully something will crystalize in the next few days,” added Moss.
