Urawa Reds booked their place in the Asian Champions League semi-finals after seeing off Kuwaiti side Al Qadisiya.
Takahito Soma opened the scoring after half an hour with a spectacular strike and Marcus Tulio Tanaka notched the second shortly after half-time to give Gert Engels’ side a 4-3 aggregate, turning around the 3-2 away loss last week.
The Reds will face Gamba Osaka in the last four, after their J League rivals advanced on the back of two goals in the last seven minutes in a 4-1 aggregate victory over Al Karama.
Akira Noshino’s side held the upper hand heading into the second leg of their quarter-final tie against the Syrian champions, having won the first encounter 2-1 in Homs last week.
And their passage was confirmed when substitute Masato Yamazaki put them ahead before setting up Brazilian frontman Roni for the second two minutes later.
Elsewhere, a hat-trick from Jose Luis Villanueva helped Bunyodkor book its place in the Asian Champions League semi-finals with a comprehensive quarter-final second-leg win against Saipa.
The Chile striker netted twice in the first half – the second from a penalty – before Brazilian veteran Rivaldo converted a second spot-kick on the stroke of half-time to make it 3-0 to the Tashkent outfit formerly known as Kuruvchi.
The game was finely poised after a 2-2 draw in the first leg last week, but Bunyodkor soon made the home advantage tell.
Villanueva opened the scoring in the ninth minute, heading home after Timur Kapadze had nodded Server Djeparov’s left-wing cross into his path.
Jasur Hasanov’s goal-bound volley was then kept out by the hand of Saipa defender Kaebi, leading to a penalty from which Villanueva coolly doubled his personal tally for the evening.
The hosts were awarded another spot-kick in the 44th minute when Kazem Bozcheloo also handled on the line, allowing Rivaldo to step up and strike home his side’s third from 12 yards.
