Montemurro nominated for The Best FIFA Women’s coach 2019 award

Former Melbourne City Westfield W-League coach Joe Montemurro has been nominated as one of 10 contenders for The Best FIFA Women’s Coach 2019 award.

Montemurro, who currently coaches Arsenal’s women’s team in the English Super League, has been shortlisted alongside the likes of USA World Cup-winning coach Jill Ellis and England’s Phil Neville.

The award is based on Montemurro’s achievements with the Lady Gunners from May 25, 2018 to July 7, 2019 inclusive.

And the 49-year-old has enjoyed huge success with the London club, guiding them to the Super League title in April.

It was Arsenal’s first title since 2012, with Montemurro helping to guide the club back to the top since he took the reins in 2017.

He also led Arsenal to the 2018 Women’s FA Cup Final and that year’s Continental Tyres Cup.

Montemurro also had great success in the Westfield W-League, taking City to the Championship in the club’s inaugural season, going through the entire campaign unbeaten.
