Milson leaves GCU

Gold Coast United’s Brazilian striker Milson has been released from the remainder of his one-year contract by mutual agreement and has returned to his homeland.

Gold Coast United’s Brazilian striker Milson has been released from the remainder of his one-year contract by mutual agreement and has returned to his homeland.

A series of soft tissue injuries hampered Milson’s A-League opportunities and with the club deciding that his contract would not be extended into next season, it was agreed that an early termination was in the best interests of both player and club.

Milson will now attempt to secure a club for the upcoming Brazilian domestic season.

United Head coach Miron Bleiberg wished the 32-year-old well and thanked him for his contribution during his spell on the Gold Coast.

“Milson is a lovely guy and unfortunately for him he was hindered by a string of injuries during time here. He is a good player and will be remembered for the glorious goal he scored against Fulham in the pre-season, ” he said.

“He always maintained a positive attitude and was great around the dressing room; we all wish him well in his future endeavours and will stay in touch with him”

“With the emergence of Andrew Barisic and youngster Golgol Mebrahtu we felt that we could accommodate his release which will allow him to find a club in Brazil for the start of their state league,” said Bleiberg.
