Melbourne Victory have confirmed that Mitch Nichols will be released by the club, whilst also confirming an offer has been made for captain Mark Milligan.
Melbourne Victory have confirmed that Mitch Nichols will be released by the club, with the midfielder set to sign for J-League outfit Cerezo Osaka, provided the 24-year-old passes a medical.
Nichols made 14 Hyundai A-League appearances for the club during the 2013/14 season after making his debut in the opening round, scoring three goals for the club.
Nichols moved to the Victory this season, after playing with Brisbane Roar for the previous six campaigns, where he made 125 appearances and netted 24 goals.
The Socceroo was a crucial member of Brisbane’s Championship winning teams in Season 6 and 7 of the Hyundai A-League; where he played under Ange Postecoglou.
Season 7 was a breakout campaign for Nichols which culminated in the attacking midfielder being named in the Hyundai A-League Team of the Season.
Nichols will be hoping the move increases his chances of reuniting with his former mentor at national level, as he bids to make the Socceroos World Cup squad.
The Victory have also released a statement announcing that an offer has been made for captain Mark Milligan from an overseas club.
The club are considering their position and will provide more details over the coming days.
Milligan was subject to a bid from Crystal Palace before the start of the current A-League season but Victory resisted the English Premier League club’s advances.
