Charlie Miller arrived at Queensland Roar a year ago with an open mind about the journey he was about to embark on.
The former Glasgow Rangers midfielder knew little about Australian football but was soon the name on local fans’ lips after a string of outstanding performances for the Roar.
The workaholic Miller’s stellar season culminated in him picking up the Hyundai A-League Foreign Player of the Year award on Monday night.
“It (his A-League experience) has been great. I didn’t come with any expectations. I didn’t come thinking it was going to be brilliant or it was going to be rubbish,” he said.
“I just came here expecting to play football and to enjoy myself.”
“I’ve loved every minute of it.”
As for the award, Miller said: “In Britain and Europe you don’t normally get awards like this so it’s nice to be acknowledged.”
“I’ve been lucky enough to beat some very good players and I’ll take it.”
“I’m very privileged.”
After six weeks out with a hernia injury Miller is slowly making his way back and is desperate to help Queensland towards a maiden grand final win.
“We’re in the finals so hopefully we can jag a good end to the season,” he said.
“We’ve got a great bunch of blokes with a great camaraderie. You can never sense whether you are going to win it or not but we’ll give it our best shot and see how we go.”
