Melbourne Victory v Perth Glory: match preview

Desperation will be in high supply at AAMI Park on Friday night as Melbourne Victory take on Perth Glory in a vital match for both sides.

It’s been a tumultuous start to Marco Kurz’s reign at Victory, with last weekend’s 3-1 loss to Adelaide United their third defeat in their last four matches.

And the table makes for bad reading, with only Wellington Phoenix below Victory on the ladder. Another defeat here would only increase the pressure on the German.

Things haven’t been a whole lot better for Glory, who themselves have managed just one win for the campaign and sit just one point above Victory on the ladder.

Tony Popovic’s side haven’t played as bad as their results suggest – including the 3-1 loss to Sydney FC on Saturday night – but they have yet to produce a 90-minute performance.

In a good omen for the visitors, they did win both matches between the two clubs at AAMI Park last season.

With a chance for both clubs to kick-start their season, it promises to be a tight, tense and full-blooded 90 minutes to open Round 8.
