Friday night’s Melbourne Derby is a sellout, with a crowd close to 30,000 expected for the clash between Melbourne Heart and Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park.

The pre-Christmas clash, much anticipated due to the respective positions of the two teams on the table, will see in the in-form Heart, who are coming off five victories in six matches, taking on Victory, who looked to put their sluggish start to the campaign behind them with a 3-1 win over Wellington last week.

A Victory win will see them likely go ahead of Heart on the table, while a Heart win will see them establish themselves as a genuine top three contender.

Heart Chief Executive Officer Scott Munn says the fact that the ‘house full’ sign went up a day out from the match is a sign of the increasing profile of the derby.

“The sell-out is a fantastic result for the Hyundai A-League and ensures a capacity crowd will witness what will surely be remembered as one of the biggest football games in recent memory,” he said.

“We have no doubt both sets of supporters will generate an electric atmosphere on the night, as cross-city rivals battle it out for the chance to edge ahead in the all-time head-to-head stakes.”
