Melbourne City FC signs Marcus Younis on loan

Melbourne City FC has confirmed the signing of Australian U23 international Marcus Younis, who joins the Club on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old winger adds further attacking depth to Aurelio Vidmar’s side as City pushes towards the Isuzu UTE A-League Finals and enters a decisive stage of its AFC Champions League Elite campaign.

Younis arrives from Danish Superliga outfit Brøndby IF, having gained valuable European experience across the past two seasons. Last year he spent time in the Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven, where he featured regularly at U23 level, making 28 appearances while contributing six goals and four assists.

On the international stage, Younis was most recently part of the Olyroos squad at the AFC U23 Asian Cup, appearing off the bench in Australia’s quarter-final against South Korea over the weekend.

Before heading overseas, Younis showcased his pace, confidence and direct attacking style in Australia at senior level. His European stint has further developed his game, exposing him to varied tactical demands, playing styles and high-performance environments.

A quick and direct wide player, Younis brings speed, energy and attacking intent to City’s front third, increasing competition for places and offering added flexibility as the Club manages both domestic and continental commitments.

Younis becomes City’s third addition of the January transfer window, joining fellow Australians Ryan Teague and Daniel Arzani as the squad continues to take shape ahead of a crucial phase of the campaign.

Melbourne City FC Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, said:

“Marcus gives us another pacy, attacking option as we head into a critical period across competitions.

“He’s a talented young player with good technical ability and real speed who will offer a different option for us in our attacking third. He has already gained valuable experience both at home and abroad, and we believe he can contribute immediately as we push on in the A-League and resume our campaign in Asia.”

Younis said:

“I’m really excited to join Melbourne City, enjoy my football, and be part of a Club that’s competing on multiple fronts.

“There’s a strong squad here and high standards every day, and I’m looking forward to working hard, contributing on the pitch and helping the team finish the season strongly.”
