Melbourne City secure Jackson for inaugural campaign

Melbourne City FC have announced the signing of midfielder Amy Jackson ahead of the 2015/16 Westfield W-League season.

The 28-year-old arrives at the Club following a stellar season for Boroondara Eagles in the Sportsmart Womens Premier League (WPL), where she led her side to a Team App Cup triumph and WPL premiership.

Jackson completed an unprecedented clean sweep of accolades at the 2015 FFV Gold Medal night, claiming the Sportsmart WPL Player of the Year, Player’s Player of the Year and Golden Boot award.

Jackson was also the recipient of the Bill Fleming award after being unanimously recognised by referees, players and the media as the state’s best player in 2015.

A formidable presence in the centre of midfield, Jackson’s average of over a goal a game in the WPL season is an example of her goal-scoring ability, scoring a brace or better on seven occasions – including a haul of five goals against Caulfield United Cobras.

Melbourne City FC W-League coach Joe Montemurro said Jackson’s ability to attack and defend will add another dimension to the team’s midfield this season.

“Amy is a terrific player and we are delighted to have her on board this season,” Montemurro said.

“We’ve seen her goal-scoring ability in the WPL this season but she also works extremely hard to track back and help out in defence, so she will add a lot of strength to our midfield.”

Melbourne City FC will kick off their maiden W-League campaign against Sydney FC in Leichardt on Sunday 18 October.
