Melbourne City and Sydney FC will contest next Sunday’s Westfield W-League 2016 Grand Final at AAMI Park in Melbourne.
Premiers Melbourne City finally prevailed 5-4 on penalties in their semi-final against Brisbane Roar on Monday, following a tense scoreless 120 minutes.
City, who had won all 12 of their regular-season matches, were held scoreless for the first time following an extraordinarily resilient Roar defensive display.
Westfield Matildas captain and former Roar striker Lisa De Vanna eventually struck the winning spot-kick as City advanced to the season decider in their maiden Westfield W-League campaign.
Sydney FC won through to the their fourth Westfield W-League Grand Final with a tough 1-0 win over champions Canberra United on Sunday.
