City sell star in record-breaking transfer: ‘Why the world’s best leagues continue to look at us’

Melbourne City have announced the departure of goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx in a record-breaking transfer to National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) expansion side Bay FC.

The Canada international’s switch to the United States eclipses the Liberty A-League outbound record just days after former City teammate Kaitlyn Torpey made history with her transfer to San Diego Wave.

Proulx joined City ahead of the 2023-24 season and she played the first 14 matches of the Liberty A-League campaign, helping the Championship hopefuls sit atop the standings heading into Round 16.

“As my time in Melbourne comes to an end, I want to take the time to thank the club for this incredible experience. Being a member of Melbourne City has been a turning point in my career, and I couldn’t be more grateful,” said the 24-year-old.

“As a City player, I was given the opportunity to play the most beautiful and exciting type of football I have played in my career so far, and I enjoyed every second of it. It was challenging but so rewarding.

“This club is now a part of me, and I cannot wait to see this team achieve what I believe they can achieve.”

City’s director of football Michael Petrillo added: “Despite only joining the club ahead of the 2023-24 season, Lysianne’s progression has been very impressive.

“Lysianne’s record-breaking transfer is a testament to Dario, our staff, our group of players and the club’s professionalism. This is why the world’s best leagues continue to look to us to deliver the next generation of talent.

“We are a club that always strives for success in the A-League Women’s competition, but we’re also one that aspires to help our players reach their potential.”
