Sydney FC captain Terry McFlynn has been ruled out of derby against Western Sydney Wanderers, while Lucas Neill is set to return.
After missing the game against Melbourne Victory last week, McFlynn had hoped to be fit for the third – and arguably biggest – Sydney derby yet but was ruled out at training on Thursday.
“There’s so much at stake,” McFlynn said.
“Western Sydney are going for the premiership and I’m sure they’d love to win it here, in front of their home supporters.
“But we’ve got a lot to play for – we want to play in the finals, we’ve be playing well recently and we’ll look to continue that on Saturday night.”
Meanwhile, Qantas Socceroos skipper Lucas Neill looks set to get his first taste of the Sydney derby atmosphere.
The central defender has missed the last two games with a calf tear but has been given the green light by Sky Blues medical staff after coming through a week of training.
“Lucas has trained well ,” said Frank Farina after Thursday-s training session.
“There was no point in risking it last week and he-s got through a reasonably heavy workload earlier this week.
“He-s definitely available and I-ll be deciding the final line up tomorrow.”
Farina will also make a decision on Friday over retaining goalkeeper Ivan Necevski between the posts or bringing back rookie shot stopper Vedran Janjetovic.
