Retired Sydney FC great Terry McFlynn says he is excited to work under newly appointed Sydney FC coach Graham Arnold, though the specifics of his new role are yet to be decided.
“Discussions are still on-going regards a role and staying involved with the club, and obviously I-ve now had discussions with Graham [Arnold] now that he-s come in,” McFlynn told www.footballaustralia.com.au after Arnold was unveiled on Thursday.
“We-ll sit down together in the next few days and hopefully nut something out.”
Arnold made special mention of McFlynn at his press conference, suggesting an appointment was only a matter of time.
McFlynn has completed a Master of Coach Education degree with focus on developing a high-performance environment through organisational culture.
And given McFlynn-s loyalty to Sydney FC over the last nine years, there-s little doubt that the Northern Irishman has plenty to offer the Sky Blues.
“That was obviously an important thing for me moving forward that I had the endorsement of the new manager coming in,” said McFlynn.
“I-ve got a few ideas in terms of what I want to do in terms of making a footprint on the football club, the football world and the football community.
“Graham-s across that now and I think we-re on the same page with a lot of that stuff.”
The hard-working midfielder added Arnold had time to build an exciting new Sydney FC in time for season 10 of the Hyundai A-League, kicking off this October.
“The great thing about the A-League is that you do have a longer off-season, followed by a long pre-season
“And Graham-s renowned for bringing teams together and building a culture of togetherness.
“There is enough time to facilitate that and bring it to fruition. He-s proven himself to be a winner and to get teams to play well.”
The Irish midfielder retired from football in April. He was a foundation Sydney FC player and was farewelled by the club-s fans in the final round at Alllianz Stadiuj with a stunning tifo made by the club-s active supporters The Cove.
