North Queensland striker Daniel McBreen has asked to be released by the club in the hope of joining Perth for the remainder of the season with Glory defender Jimmy Downey heading to the Fury in a possible player swap between the two clubs.

North Queensland and Perth have agreed to terms but are just waiting for the necessary paper work to complete the deal.

McBreen, who will join Central Coast for the 2010/11 season, formed a strong partnership with Robbie Fowler this season, scoring three goals in 21 appearances, and coach Ian Ferguson was more than happy to accommodate his wish to join Perth and acquire the services of Downey.

“We knew Daniel wasn’t going to be here next year … Perth were interested in him and we liked the look of young Jimmy Downey,” Ferguson said.

“It’s worked out well for well for everyone and we’ll have Jimmy travel to Wellington with us for Friday night-s match against the Phoenix.”

“Both players wanted to move on and there was no pressure from either us or Perth.”

After playing 31 matches in his first two seasons at the Glory, 22-year-old Downey has struggled to break into the first-team this campaign, making just three appearances off the bench.
