Julie Dolan medallist set for loan move to Mexican giants

Alex Chidiac is reportedly set to join Mexican giants Tigres on loan from NWSL side Racing Louisville.

According to Bekki Morgan from American publication The Equalizer, Chidiac will join Las Amazonas for the remainder of her contract, which expires in December.

The Matildas midfielder initially joined Louisville in April 2022 from Liberty A-League outfit Melbourne Victory and became a key member of their squad in her first season at the club, starting 14 times in her 18 appearances.

However, after returning from a second stint at Victory, Chidiac’s minutes dried up significantly, making only eight appearances for a total of 140 minutes playing time in 2023.

The reigning Julie Dolan medallist was still part of Australia’s 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup squad, but made only three cameos off the bench against Nigeria, England and Sweden – despite widespread clamour for her to see more minutes during the tournament.

Tigres are currently undefeated in Liga MX Femenil and sit second on the standings behind Club America. Spanish Women’s World Cup star Jenni Hermoso also plies her trade in the league for Pachuca, who currently sit in 12th.

Should the deal come to fruition in the next few days and be deemed available to play from the off despite her World Cup campaign coming to an end only last week, Chidiac would be in line to potentially debut against FC Barcelona in a friendly on September 1.

The Mexican giants are the most successful women’s team in the country, winning the Liga MX title five times and have also secured two Campeon de Campeones crowns in 2022 and 2023.

Six of the players who were last called up to the Mexican women’s national team are from Tigres, including star midfielder Stephany Mayor.
