Canberra United duo Sally James and Tegan Bertolissio, and Melbourne City star Alexia Apostolakis have been drafted into the CommBank Matildas squad.
The Ninja A-League trip come into the Australian camp in a train-on capacity after Matildas stars Ellie Carpenter (ankle) and Hayler Raso (thigh) were medically withdrawn from the two-match international series against South Korea, starting in Sydney on Friday night and concluding in Newcastle on Monday.

Both Carpenter and Raso will depart the Sydney base camp in the coming days to continue rehab in their club environment, while Football Australia is awaiting scans for goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold (arm) after she was unable to complete Wednesday afternoon’s training session.

The situation provides an opportunity for James, and Young Matildas duo Bertolissio and Apostolakis to experiences the senior national team environment.
James has starred for finals-chasing Canberra this Ninja A-League season – the 21-year-old starting all 21 matches for the capital club, who are sixth in the standings during the international break.

Bertolissio,18, has also been a mainstay in Canberra’s line-up, having not missed a game in 2024-25.
As for Apostolakis, the 18-year-old has played a key role in reigning premiers City’s unbeaten season so far. The teenage defender has scored two goals in 21 games as the leaders eye an invincible campaign.
