Matildas star returns in huge coup for Melbourne Victory: ‘She’s an invaluable asset’

Melbourne Victory have announced the return of reigning Julie Dolan medallist Alex Chidiac, with the Matildas star signing on until the end of the 2025-26 Liberty A-League season in a massive coup for the club.

Chidiac is a Victory player again after a loan stint with Mexican side Tigres from her parent club Racing Louisville, where she made 26 appearances over two seasons.

The midfielder took the Liberty A-League by storm last term, winning the competition’s highest individual honour despite playing only 13 matches, and her arrival on the cusp of 2024 has the potential to be a turning point in the season.

She joins with Victory sitting fourth in the table and will be available to play against Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday December 30 after the closure of the international transfer window.

“We’re incredibly pleased to have Alex back with us for the remainder of the campaign but even more exciting is that she will be with the squad for a further two seasons,” Hopkins said.

“Alex has shown that she is one of the elite midfielders in this country and she’s an invaluable asset to our side both on and off the park.

“At 24, her experience domestically and internationally is vast and over her time at Victory, she has been a leader with her actions, leading by example in everything she does and we’re looking forward to what she can produce over an extended period at the Club.”

Chidiac is excited to be back with Victory on a permanent basis.

“I’m delighted to be back at Victory and can’t wait to be back on the pitch in the Liberty A-League,” Chidiac said.

“Victory has become like a second home to me. Working with Jeff and the team brings out the best in me as a footballer and I’m looking forward to helping the team win more silverware over my time here.”
