Matchweek 5 preview: Sydney FC v Central Coast Mariners

Central Coast Mariners face a big test of their A-League credentials against Sydney FC on Friday night.

Back to back wins over Newcastle Jets and Macarthur FC gave Alen Stajcic’s side a dream start to the season but the Mariners dropped their first points of the new campaign at home to Western Sydney Wanderers in a 1-0 loss last Tuesday.

The Gosford club will be hoping to avoid another reality check against the Sky Blues. Steve Corica’s men posted a first-time out win over Wellington Phoenix before a derby stalemate with Western Sydney Wanderers last Saturday.

They’ll be eager to breathe momentum into their title defence at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.
