Matchday Saturday preview: A-League, Westfield W-League – March 20

UPDATE*** The APL today made the decision to postpone the Westfield W-League and A-League  matches between Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory due to the amount of rainfall at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium overnight and this morning.

Macarthur FC and Western United resume battle in the earlier A-League fixture, set to get underway at Campbelltown Stadium (kick-off 5.05pm AEDT).

The Bulls began Matchweek 12 in second place and ended it in sixth in the fallout from their 3-0 loss to Melbourne City.

A 4-1 loss to Western United in Matchweek 9 will be fresh in the memory for Ante Milicic’s side, who will be eager to make amends by defeating the Green and Black looking for a second successive win after edging Brisbane Roar 1-0 in their last A-League outing.

In the Westfield W-League,  third on the Westfield W-League table, Jeff Hopkins’ side will look to continue their excellent momentum and overtake Brisbane into second. A win would leave Victory with a chance of edging past the Sky Blues to clinch the Premiers Plate in Round 14.

Canberra United, meanwhile, travel to face Newcastle Jets at No. 2 Sportsground (kick-off 6.35pm AEDT) with the hopes of securing a win to climb back into the top four.

The Green Machine trail Adelaide United in fourth by one point, but have a game in hand on the Reds.

A win over the Jets would heap the pressure on Adelaide to secure three points against Western Sydney Wanderers on Sunday, March 21 – their last game of the season – to set Canberra the task of overtaking them once more in their final game of the season in Round 14.
