Match Review Panel delivers verdict on two Round 13 red cards

Brisbane Roar defender Holly McQueen has been handed a one-game suspension for her red card received in the 92nd minute of her side’s 3-2 loss to Perth Glory on Sunday.

Football Australia’s independent Match Review Panel (MRP) convened on Tuesday to consider the red card received by McQueen for taking down Glory’s Ella Abdul-Massih just outside Perth’s attacking penalty area.

The MRP, consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Alan Davidson and Rhali Dobson, concluded McQueen had committed the offence of “denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, as prescribed in Law 12 of the Laws of the Game,” and have offered the Roar defender a one-game suspension – the minimum sanction for the offence.

McQueen will miss Brisbane’s trip to face Wellington Phoenix on Sunday, February 2 before being available for selection once again against Western Sydney Wanderers on February 9.

Newcastle Jets forward Sheridan Gallagher will also serve a one-game ban after receiving an indirect red card for two cautions in her side’s 2-2 draw with Canberra United in Round 13.

Gallagher will miss Saturday’s F3 Derby against Central Coast Mariners before being available for selection against Melbourne City on February 8.
