Match preview: Western Sydney Wanderers v Newcastle Jets

What both these teams would do for a win to bring a bit of relief to their forgettable 2018/19 Seasons thus far!

While the top six appears a long way off for both clubs right now, a win here will at least give them hope as we head towards the last third of the regular season.

The Wanderers should have secured that victory last Friday night, conceding twice in stoppage-time to throw away a two-goal lead against Brisbane Roar to draw 2-2.

That result really sums up the Wanderers’ campaign. It also continues a worrying trend for Markus Babbel’s troops, who have now conceded 10 goals in the last 11 minutes in their last five matches.

The Jets are coming off a 2-0 loss to Perth Glory in their last outing, which is no surprise considering they have won just two of 22 matches against the side from the west.

Their record against the Wanderers is a little more encouraging though, unbeaten in the last four clashes between the two clubs, including a 2-0 win earlier this season.

With 11 points between themselves and the top six, it really is now-or-never for Ernie Merrick’s men.

The Foxtel Y-League decider – between the Wanderers and Roar – will also be played as a curtain raiser to the Hyundai A-League clash giving you even more reason to get to ANZ Stadium on Friday night.
