Revenge will be on the minds of Western Sydney Wanderers players when they welcome Melbourne Victory to ANZ Stadium on Saturday night.
It’s been just over a month since Wanderers were on the end of a 4-0 drubbing against Victory at Marvel Stadium in one of the most devastating performances of the 2018/19 Season so far.
Unfortunately for the home side, not much since then indicates they’ll have any better luck against a Victory team on an eight-game unbeaten run and with star imports Raul Baena and Georg Neidermeier back in their squad.

Victory have also had an extra four days to prepare for this one after their 1-1 draw with Wellington back on December 28, with the Wanderers going down 2-0 against Melbourne City in their last outing on New Years’ Day.
Coach Markus Babbel was disappointed with that showing from his side and is likely to ring the changes, with exciting new recruit Kwame Yeboah a chance to make his debut on Saturday night.
Key Opta stats
- The Western Sydney Wanderers have tasted victory just once in their last 15 encounters with Melbourne Victory (D4, L10), and have lost their last three on the bounce.
- The Victory are undefeated in their last eight A-League fixtures (W6, D2), and will aim to extend that run to nine games for the first time since Round 15, 2016/17.
- The Wanderers’ Oriol Riera has made 63 touches inside the opposition box, only Wellington’s Roy Krishna has made as many.
