Match Preview: Western Sydney Wanderers v Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar will be out to make an immediate impression against Western Sydney Wanderers as the Hyundai A-League travels to Mudgee for the first time on Saturday.

John Aloisi was “angry” with his team’s slow start in last weekend’s loss to Perth Glory, so expect Roar to come out breathing fire at Glen Willow Regional Sports Stadium.

The Wanderers announced the regional trip earlier this year and will have Markus Babbel back on the touchline after he served his one-match ban during the 3-0 rout of Wellington Phoenix.

That performance was much-needed after the Sydney Derby defeat and lifted Western Sydney into the top six ahead of this Round 4 encounter.

KEY OPTA STATS

  • Roar have won just one of their last five games against Western Sydney in New South Wales (D1, L3) despite leading at half-time three times in that span.
  • Wanderers have won three of their last six home games at venues other than Parramatta Stadium or Spotless Stadium (D1, L2).
  • Brisbane have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 10 games away from home – never have they gone 11 games on the road without holding their opposition scoreless.

THEY SAID IT

“We just have to make sure that we’re on from the start. I think that’s easy. I think that’s the easiest thing to do. We have to put the opposition on the back foot straight away, don’t let them put you on the back foot.” – John Aloisi
