Match preview: Perth Glory v Brisbane Roar

Perth Glory are beginning to see the Premiers’ Plate emerge on the horizon.

The Hyundai A-League ladder leaders surged seven points ahead at the summit with just nine rounds of the competition remaining after dispatching reigning champions Melbourne Victory last Sunday.

But Tony Popovic is certainly not getting carried away, and he’ll urge his side to maintain their ruthless streak for the visit of Brisbane Roar on Saturday evening (10.00pm AEDT kick-off).

Perth will be particularly wary of a Roar side heading to Western Australia euphoric following their shock 2-1 win over Sydney FC last Friday night.

Dylan Wenzel-Halls fired in a late winner to hand interim boss Darren Davies his first triumph at the helm of the struggling Queenslanders.

And although the Roar have not claimed an away victory in their last 11 Hyundai A-League games away from home, do not underestimate the galvanising effect Round 18’s upset of the Sky Blues may have on Brisbane.

Indeed, Roar will be desperate to atone for their capitulation at the hands of Glory back in January, where they let a two-goal lead slip to lose 4-2 at home.
