Newcastle’s bid for their first win of the Hyundai A-League season does not get any easier on Saturday evening when Sydney FC come to town.
The Jets, Grand Finalists last season, remain winless and sit on the bottom of the table after two defeats from their first three matches.
And while coach Ernie Merrick was encouraged by his side’s performance in a 1-0 home defeat to Melbourne Victory in Round 3, he acknowledged that it was now “important to start picking up three points straight away”.
But it is a tough ask against the Hyundai A-League leaders, who bounced back from their FFA Cup Final 2018 disappointment in terrific fashion, making a real statement with a 3-0 win at Melbourne City last time out.
