Match preview: Newcastle Jets v Melbourne City

Melbourne City will go in search of a hat-trick of wins against Newcastle Jets in the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season when they meet at McDonald Jones Stadium on Friday evening (kick off 7.50pm AEDT).

City beat the Jets 3-0 in December before following up with a 2-1 success last month.

Both of those matches were played at AAMI Park and both included goals from Riley McGree and Luke Brattan.

McGree was, of course, on loan at the Jets last season and scored his incredible scorpion kick in the Semi-Final meeting between these two sides.

That 2-1 success is Newcastle’s only win in their past six meetings against City.

Both sides enter the clash off the back of a home draw, with the seventh-placed Jets thankful to goalkeeper Glen Moss for taking a point in a 1-1 stalemate with the Wellington Phoenix in Round 18. Moss saved a late Roy Krishna penalty.

City, on the other hand, came from behind to draw 1-1 with Adelaide United, Jamie Maclaren getting the equaliser on club debut.

How Maclaren works with fellow new signing Shayon Harrison and exciting youngster Lachlan Wales in City’s front three is likely to prove crucial in this encounter.
