Match Preview: Newcastle Jets v Canberra United

Table-toppers Canberra United head north to face Newcastle Jets with a point to prove in a much-anticipated Westfield W-League encounter on Saturday night.

Canberra are equal first heading into Round 3, but will be somewhat disappointed after a thrilling 4-4 draw against Perth Glory in Round 2.

United led 4-1 against a Glory side reduced to 10 players, but conceded three goals in the last 10 minutes to throw away two points.

It should mean there is no shortage of motivation when Heather Garriock’s side face a Jets outfit who have played just once – in a 2-1 loss at Melbourne Victory.

The Jets did hammer Canberra the last time the two sides met, though, recording a 5-1 win that was highlighted by a Katie Stengel hat-trick.

Hannah Brewer will return from suspension for the Jets, while Canberra are without high-profile pair Refiloe Jane and Aoife Colvill.
