Match preview: Melbourne City v Canberra United

Melbourne City are convinced they are “starting to come together” ahead of the crucial finals run-in, according to goalkeeper Lydia Williams.

City faces Canberra United on Saturday afternoon at AAMI Park (kickoff 5.00pm AEDT) searching for just their third win of the Westfield W-League 2018/19 Season.

The three-time defending Champions struggled for form in the early rounds of the campaign but entered a bye off the back of a morale-boosting 3-1 win at Newcastle Jets.

“Having everyone back and getting the result that we did… I think is a good sign,” Williams told www.w-league.com.au.

While City are in unfamiliar territory towards the bottom of the table, Canberra are one point ahead of them after winning two, drawing two and losing two of their first matches.

One of those triumphs came in Round 1 against City as Rhoda Mulaudzi and Ellie Carpenter scored in a 2-0 win at Belconnen Soccer Centre.

United will face a very different City team on this occasion, though, with the clash likely to be a real litmus test for Rado Vidosic’s side.
