Match preview: Brisbane Roar v Newcastle Jets

Goals should be on the cards when Brisbane Roar host Newcastle Jets at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

That’s because there’s only been one clean sheet in the last eight games Roar have played in front of their home fans – the bad news for them is that only two of those matches have ended in wins for the men in Orange.

But even though their finals hopes ended some weeks ago, Darren Davies’ troops showed in their 2-1 win over Wellington last weekend that they are not yet thinking about their end-of-season trip.

In a blow for the home side, though, their two-goal hero from that Phoenix clash – Eric Bautheac – misses this one through suspension after his late red card in that game.

For the Jets, their slim top-six hopes were officially extinguished after their brave 1-0 loss in Perth against the new premiers Glory on Sunday night.

That encounter continued a similar theme for Ernie Merrick’s side, who looked excellent in patches but were unable to make the most of their opportunities.

While the Hunter club head into this match on the back of three defeats in their last four games, they do enjoy a decent record in Brisbane.

The Jets have taken all three points back south to Newcastle with them in their last three visits to the Suncorp.
