The match official panel for the Westfield W-League 2016/17 Season have gathered at the AIS in Canberra to participate in a pre-season seminar with their Hyundai A-League counterparts.
This was the first time that all Westfield W-League referees, assistant referees and fourth officials have attended the annual event.
During the seminar, match officials received technical coaching from FFA and FIFA Instructors as well as completing fitness testing and practical exercises.
The seminar also gave participants the opportunity to hear from one of the world’s best rugby referees, Australian Amy Perrett.
Perrett recently returned from refereeing at the Rio Olympics and spoke about the importance of the respect that there is for referees in rugby while also outlining the qualities she believes have led to her success as a referee.
Greg O’Rourke, Head of the Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League, attended the seminar and was pleased to meet the refereeing team.
“The passion and commitment shown by these referees is infectious,” O’Rourke said.
“Their efforts from the weekend will enable them to be better prepared to meet the challenges ahead and I look forward to seeing the refereeing team perform throughout the season.”
The Westfield W-League 2016/17 Season commences on Saturday 5 November.
