Markus Babbel fined for FFA Code of Conduct breach

Football Federation Australia (FFA) has today determined that Western Sydney Wanderers FC (WSW) Head Coach, Markus Babbel, has breached the FFA National Code of Conduct (the Code) in relation to public comments immediately following the conclusion of WSW’s Hyundai A-League Round 9 match against Wellington Phoenix on 7 December 2019 (the Match).

Babbel was provided with the opportunity to make a submission to FFA in response to the allegations his public comments may have been a breach of the Code.

After consideration of the submissions, FFA has determined that Babbel has breached clauses 2.1, 5.1(a) and 6.1(a) of the Code and he has been issued with a $3000 fine. In determining the sanction, FFA considered sanctions applied in comparable incidents in the Hyundai A-League and the fact this was Babbel’s second breach within the current season.

In addition, FFA has informed Babbel that any further breach of the Code could result in more severe sanctions being applied.

Babbel has seven (7) business days to appeal FFA’s determination, should he wish to do so.
