Marksmen poised for Hyundai A-League milestones this weekend

Tomorrow night’s Hyundai A-League clash between Western Sydney Wanderers and Wellington Phoenix could see three separate milestones reached.

And they’re all to do with strikers.

A NEW MARK FOR BRIDGE

If Western Sydney win the game, club talisman Mark Bridge will become the first player to feature in 50 victories for the Wanderers.

Bridge scored the goal that gave Western Sydney their first ever win in the Hyundai A-League, against Brisbane in round four of their inaugural season in 2012/13.

Now in his second stint with the club, he has featured in 49 wins.

But Bridge’s overall Hyundai A-League record against the Phoenix is very much 50/50 with 11 wins, 11 losses and three draws in his previous 25 clashes with Wellington.

ROY’S RECORD?

Roy Krishna is closing in on his side’s all-time goalscoring record.

The Wellington Phoenix striker, who recently inked a contract extension, has 32 Hyundai A-League goals, just one short of Paul Ifill’s club record.

Ifill’s 33 goals came in 106 matches, while the Fijian flyer has taken just 89 games to notch 32 goals.

Western Sydney aren’t his favourite opposition though, with just two goals in nine meetings with the Wanderers.

SUPER SUB SANTA

Brendon Santalab is close to the record for the most Hyundai A-League goals scored by a substitute.

The Wanderers striker has 15 goals from the bench in his seven-season career, two short of the record held by Henrique.

“Santa” loves playing against Wellington, netting eight goals in his last five meetings with the Phoenix, including three braces.
