Defensive midfielder Rostyn Griffiths and left back Joshua Rose will not be short of confidence when they line up for Central Coast against the Newcastle Jets in round three of the Hyundai A-League on Sunday.
The Mariners pair were this week named by national coach Holger Osieck for a national train-on squad next week.
They will link with the rest of the squad shortly after Sunday’s match against the Jets at Ausgrid Stadium in Newcastle.
Rose and Griffiths were recognised after their outstanding form for the Mariners last season after they made a third grand final and qualified for the Asian Champions League for the second time.
“Both of them had great seasons and they deserve to get this call up,” Mariners coach Graham Arnold said.
Selection in the train-on squad caps what has been an outstanding 12 months for Griffiths and Rose.
“They were both great for us last year and now it’s good they’re getting recognised in the national set up,” Arnold said.
“Rostyn can play in a holding midfield role or defence and Josh was the best left-sided defender in the country last season.”
There was more good news for the Mariners with goalkeeper Mathew Ryan to be joined by Sam Gallagher and Brad McDonald in an Olyroos train-on squad.
