Mariners to tackle Wanderers in Coffs Harbour

Central Coast Mariners will face Western Sydney Wanderers in a pre-season friendly to be played in Coffs Harbour on Friday August 7.

Both sides will hit the pitch as a part of Hyundai A-League pre-season but the clash will also serve as a measure for both clubs’ Westfield FFA Cup round of 32 fixtures, scheduled to take place just days later on Tuesday August 11.

The trip to NSW’s Mid North Coast is the second pre-season announcement for the Mariners, with the Yellow & Navy having already confirmed two matches in Canberra on August 18 and 20.

Tony Walmsley is relishing a match against Western Sydney that wasn’t originally in the Mariners’ pre-season plans.

“It’s important to play Hyundai A-League oppositions in the pre-season,” Walmsley said. “It’s so close to our FFA Cup game and we needed to weigh up if playing close games in such a close proximity was the way to go but the state of the squad and condition they’ve come back in, gives us a good opportunity to provide our whole squad with time on the park.

“This game was offered to us at short notice, we’ve taken advantage of it and we look forward to taking on the Wanderers in Coffs Harbour,” he said.

The Central Coast Mariners are set to announce further pre-season fixtures as soon as details have been finalised.
