Central Coast has boosted its attacking stocks with the signing of Welsh Under-21 international Jonathan Brown until at least the end of the current season.

The 19-year-old right-winger has already been capped for his nation six times at Under 21-s level, and joins the Mariners after coming through the youth system at Cardiff.

Brown made two senior appearances for the Bluebirds in the English Championship as a 17-year-old before moving to Conference side Wrexham on loan, where he scored four goals in 27 appearances.

Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna has been very impressed with the youngster after watching him train with the club over the past few weeks.

“As soon as I saw his resume I spoke to Matt Crowell to ask after him and had some positive feedback, so we’ve had him in at training over the last few weeks and he-s looked good,” said McKinna.

“Only being 19 means he gives us plenty of options and he’s still developing, but from what we have seen of him at training he should be a good addition to the squad.”

“He will add to the competition for spots in attack and that-s what we need at the moment, so we’ll see how he goes.”

Brown is looking forward to showing Central Coast fans what he is capable of after enduring a tough period waiting for his visa.

“It’s been pretty frustrating waiting for visas and clearances but now everything has been sorted I can’t wait to play,” said Brown.

“I feel as though I’ve been training pretty well and now its time to take that onto the pitch and repay the faith the gaffer has shown in me.”

“It’s a great bunch of lads here, they’ve all made me feel really welcome and part of the squad, and I’m just looking forward to getting out there now.”

Brown is eligible to join his new team-mates for Friday night’s clash against the Reds at Adelaide Oval.
