Mariners confirm Gallifuoco departure

The Central Coast Mariners have announced they have reached an agreement with Giancarlo Gallifuoco for the player to depart the club with immediate effect.

The announcement confirmed that the 26-year-old is seeking to explore an opportunity with a club in the AFC Champions League, where three Hyundai A-League clubs Sydney FC, Perth Glory and Melbourne Victory are set to contest the upcoming Group Stage.

Gallifuoco made 10 appearances for the Mariners this season under Alen Stajcic, following previous stints with the Victory and Western Sydney Wanderers.

In November, he scored his maiden Hyundai A-League goal in the Mariners 1-0 win over Western United – their first home win of the season.

Mariners CEO Shaun Mielekamp thanked Gallifuoco for his time with the club this season.

“Giancarlo approached the club and indicated a wish to explore an opportunity with another club, with the potential to play Champions League football,” Mielekamp said.

“We have reached an agreement with Giancarlo, and everyone at the club wishes him all the best for his new endeavour and thank him for his time at the Mariners.”

“This move also allows the Club to also explore further options with the transfer window still open.”
