Four Manchester United players have been named in the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Premier League Team of the Year for 2012/13.

PFA Player of the Year nominees Robin van Persie and Michael Carrick are joined in the XI by Old Trafford team-mates David De Gea and Rio Ferdinand. All four were present at the PFA’s annual awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Sunday night after helping the new league champions draw 1-1 at Arsenal.

No other club has as many players in the team; Chelsea take two places for Eden Hazard and Juan Mata and Tottenham Hotspur occupy the same number with central defender Jan Vertonghen and goalscoring talisman Gareth Bale. Everton, Liverpool and former champions Manchester City have one representative each in the line-up – they are Leighton Baines, Luis Suarez and Pablo Zabaleta respectively.

Tottenham star Bale also won the top two individual awards, after being voted both the Players’ Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year by his peers. He’s the first man to scoop this double since Cristiano Ronaldo, then at United of course, in 2007.
